چکیده

Abstract: An optical header replacement technology based on Self Electro-optic Effect Devices (SEEDs) is presented. By using the measurement result of a 75 μm long SEED device, we simulate an 8 Gbps throughput is achievable. Based on the switching characteristics of SEEDs, we proposed several methods to improve the SEEDs switching speed. An ultra fast switching speed at 50 Gbps is achievable by integrating external components and applying a pair of preset pulses. Due to the convenience of operation in both the optical domain and the electrical domain, it is very suitable for optical header processing; therefore it is an ideal candidate solution for optical fast packet switch.

Design of Arrayed Waveguide Grating based Optical Switch for High Speed Optical Networks

This paper demonstrates the design of an Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWG) based optical switch. In the design both physical and network layer analysis is performed. The physical layer power and noise analysis is done to obtain Bit Error Rate (BER). This has been found that at the higher bit rates, BER is not affected with number of buffer modules. Network layer analysis is done to obtain perfor...

Ultrafast All-Optical Shift Register and Its Perspective Application for Optical Fast Packet Switching

SEED (self-electrooptic effect device) configuration, symmetric(S) SEED switching characteristics, a single all-optical memory cell, and the packet switch structure are briefly introduced. By applying a planar integrated optical circuit based on SEEDs, the demonstration of an all-optical memory cell, which can be used in optical switching and optical data storing is introduced by using master-s...

Ultra-fast photonic packet switching with optical control.

We report the first demonstration of all-optical multi-bit address recognition at 250 Gb/s using a self-routing scheme. With bit period being only 4 ps, two address bits from each packet header were used for routing. Photonic packets can be removed(dropped) by a routing switch from network traffic at their destination. The packet-switching bit-error rate was measured to be less than 10(-9) .

Header Extraction and Control for an Asynchronous Optical Packet Switch Based on DPSK Decoding

A novel optical header extraction scheme based on optical differential phase shift keying—DPSK—decoding is examined analytically and experimentally. The header is applied in front of the payload, on the phase of a pulsed optical level introduced for the duration of the header. The proposed scheme offers maximized header extraction efficiency, required by the electronics to identify the header b...

All-optical signal processing for optical packet switching networks [5907-20]

We discuss how all-optical signal processing might play a role in future all-optical packet switched networks. We introduce a concept of optical packet switches that employ entirely all-optical signal processing technology. The optical packet switch is made out of three functional blocks: the optical header processing block, the optical memory block and the wavelength conversion block. The oper...
